Eliot's life
The largest primate native of the Americas is also a critically endangered species. Once sovereign in the Atlantic Forest, the Northern-Muriqui is now limited to a few small wood fragments, a tiny fraction of its original range. Its survival depends now on the conservation efforts of researchers, projects and institutions dedicated to protect what remains of the Atlantic Forest and its dwellers. In an ambitious initiative, the Muriqui Institute of Biodiversity made the first attempt to rewild the Atlantic Forest with the Northern-Muriqui. This is the story of the young Eliot, the first of these inhabitants, a new hope for the species and to the whole hotspot.
